Built: 1928
Named in honor of longtime school board member and borough businessman Howard M. Smith, the facility is recognized as the Lehigh Valley’s longest continuously used football field.

The 2025 season marks the final chapter for the stadium in its current form, closing out 97 straight seasons of uninterrupted, unchanged football at Wilson Area High School.

Named in honor of Clare Johnson, a 1928 graduate of Wilson Area High School, who earned nine varsity letters and captained the football team his senior year.  After graduating from East Stroudsburg State College in 1933, he returned to Wilson, where he taught Health and Physical Education for 26 years. Alongside his teaching, Johnson served as head football coach for 12 years, assistant football coach for 3 years, JV boys’ basketball coach for 20 years, and head track coach for 26 years.
