Avona All Stars – Together We Shine was the theme for Teacher Appreciation week. Stars with each child’s name on one were displayed throughout the school.
The faculty and support staff enjoyed playing games to earn tickets for the tricky tray at the end of the week. Mrs. Vernarr was the big winner earning 35 tickets and winning three prizes from the tricky tray.
Other gifts were given to them each day to show how much they
brighten our days and enlighten the lives of all our children.
Students brought flowers and baked goods to show their appreciation.
Thanks to everyone who helped to make this week such a great success!
The second Annual Avona Science Fair was held on April 19th. The event was busy with many visitors.
Students showed their exhibits, bells were ringing, magnets were sticking, paper airplanes were flying and a tsunami repeatedly made dinosaurs extinct! Kids and parents made ice cream in a bag and everyone seemed to have a great time!
Each student was awarded a participation
certificate and a ribbon for their hard work. Thanks to all for
making this event such a success!

Graduating Wilson High School Seniors who attended Avona Elementary School now have a chance to win one of two $500 scholarships! This doubles the chance of getting the scholarship.
Previously, Avona awarded one $500 scholarship to a graduating senior. This increase was approved at the last Avona Elementary PTA meeting held March 18th.
Wilson High School class of 2004 students who attended Avona Elementary for at least three years should read the Guidelines and fill out an Application.
As part of Read Across America week, our Principal, Mr. Wright volunteered his evening on March 2nd to read to children at Barnes & Noble in Allentown. Students gathered around to listen while parents searched for books, to be joined by their happy children after story time.
Barnes & Noble gave a portion of all voucher sales back to the Avona PTA. As a result, the PTA was able to raise $101.17! This money was given to the Avona Library where our librarian, Mrs. Brennan, was able to pick out some new videos for the library.
We would like to send a special thank you to Mr. Wright for volunteering his time. We'd also like to thank all of those that attended and purchased books to raise money for the Avona Library.

Students participated in Jump Rope for Heart in
February 2004. Thanks to the students and volunteers, $4,597.22 was raised for the American Heart Association! Participants had a great time and also earned prizes such as T-Shirts and Toys.

The
Avona PTA web site made it's public debut April 5th.
This site is being launched with a wealth of information on the PTA
organization and it's many activities at Avona Elementary. More
information and news will be added as it happens.
We hope the web will allow us to get timely news and more in-depth information out faster than is possible with print. You'll read about it here first, so check back often. Recent headlines are on the main page.
We hope you enjoy learning about the PTA and it's work at Avona
through our new website!
