Archived PTA News for 2003-04

Stories from the 2003-2004 school year are archived here for future reference.

Avona Last Day Party a Blast!

Mark Stolzenberg saves the day! Performing his juggling and unicycle routine, he made kids of all ages laugh. The audience also participated, a student (Marc S.) was balanced on his shoulders while riding his unicycle. WOW! Students passed items up to him so he could juggle them while riding.

Students enjoyed Burger King for lunch, cooled off with Rita's Italian Ice and also had popcorn for a fun snack.

A giant beach ball was bouncing about, kids were getting tattooed and enjoying numerous games and events setup by the many volunteers that came out to help and have a good time. The students really enjoyed having their parents attend and share in the fun as did the PTA. Thanks to everyone who attended for making this a memorable day.

The Dazzling Mills Family Fails to Dazzle Avona Students

The PTA had booked the The Dazzling Mills Family for the last day festivities. Unfortunately they had a problem over the weekend with an expired vehicle registration. As a result they will not be performing for our last day.

Fortunately, the PTA found this out when they called the Mills Wednesday afternoon to re-confirm. With less than 24 hours to spare and with help from Google, another act was booked.

Mark Stolzenberg will bring his one of a kind specialty act featuring comedy, unicycle, balancing, acrobatics dance and mime! It's slapstick at it's best! Read all about it at his website, http://assembliesinschools.com/index2.html.

Story Time with Mr. Wright

As part of Read Across America week, our Principal, Mr. Wright volunteered his evening on March 2nd to read to children at Barnes & Noble in Allentown. Students gathered around to listen while parents searched for books, to be joined by their happy children after story time.

Barnes & Noble gave a portion of all voucher sales back to the Avona PTA. As a result, the PTA was able to raise $101.17! This money was given to the Avona Library where our librarian, Mrs. Brennan, was able to pick out some new videos for the library.

We would like to send a special thank you to Mr. Wright for volunteering his time. We'd also like to thank all of those that attended and purchased books to raise money for the Avona Library.
