After School Program:
Arts & Crafts - November 8th to ...
Wendi Dougherty and Mrs. Golden have offered to host an after-school arts and crafts program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Wendi is the PTA school spirit chairperson. Mrs. Golden is the 2nd grade teacher here at Avona. Together they would like to share their love for crafting with the students.
The arts & crafts program will take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the Month at 3:15pm 4:30pm. The first class will be Tuesday, November 8th followed by November 22nd. There will be a session on December 13th, but due to the holiday break, there will be no session December 27th. It will continue in January on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month.
School Store Schedule
Grades 1 & 3 have school store on the third Wednesday of the month.
Kindergarten students do not participate in School store.
We are always in need of parent volunteers to spend just 20 minutes in the morning to help the students make their selections and help them pay for it. If you are able to help, please contact Sheri Cawley at 610-559-0230.

Scholastic Book Fair's Camp Read a Book opens its doors for the
Spring 2006 session at Avona on April 25 & 26th! Leave your bug spray at
home. At Camp Read a Book, we "Let the Book Bugs Bite"!
BUY ONE BOOK, GET ONE BOOK FREE! For every book a student buys, they get one free (the cheaper of the two). Buy four books, get two free.

Family Movie Night: Sky High -
Friday March 10, 2006, 6:00 PM
The movie was shown in the Multi-Purpose room at Avona. Movie goers brought their sports chair or a blanket just like being at the drive in. Free popcorn and water were provided. Soda, candy and other items were also available for purchase.
This event was the debut a new popcorn machine the PTA purchased. Before this, the PTA had to borrow a pop corn machine. It worked perfectly.
Family Movie Night:
Winter Festival - December 23 at 1:30 pm until 3:15pm
Students had a fun time
visiting classmates and teachers in other classes while enjoying
refreshments.
POLAR EXPRESS, THE MOVIE - Friday, December 16th at 6:00 pm

Evening BMI
Screening Presentation - December 1st

Andrea Grube, Avona's school nurse and Lisa Lutes Virgilio, PLMS's nurse, on Thursday, December 1st at 7:00 pm gave a presentation on Body Mass Index. The state has mandated screening for students K-4. Discussed was what will be done and what we can do at home to get our students lowering their BMI. |
Student Picture Retakes
- November 21st
Students that missed picture day on October 6th get their second (and
last) chance to get their picture taken on Monday, November 21.
Family Fun Night Book Bingo - November 11th
@ 6 PM
Everyone was a winner! Well, lets just say everyone won. At the end of
the night, there were enough books left over that all students went home
with a book in hand. YEAH! Many games of Bingo were played. Losers Bingo
was a popular game. Every student stands up and numbers are called. If
you have that number, you sit. Last one standing is the winner of losers
Bingo. Math Bingo was a little more challenging, but fun all the same.
The students truly had a fun night. We would like to thank Mr. Wright
for once again being our Bingo caller. Great Job!
Hootenanny Friday October 28
The students will have a fall Hootenanny
this Friday, October, 28. The PTA has hired a professional caller
for the square dancing to take place. Mrs. Skutches & Mrs. Dillon have been
working together to teach the students to square dance. The halls
were decorated by Mrs. Cimino and look great!
The students are encouraged to come in ho-down dress attire (sneakers must be worn).
Picture Day at Avona
Picture day for all Avona students took place on October 6th. Make ups
are on November 21st.
