Last Day Party!!

TheAvona Elementary last day celebration took place on the last day of school, Monday June 7^th. The PTA had numerous events in place for the students to enjoy including limbo, volley ball, water balloons, tug of war and hippity hop race.

The PTA was also pleased to host Hou-Tien Cheng, a renowned Master and instructor in the ancient art of free-form paper-cutting. Mr Cheng will give workshops and demonstrate his remarkable skills in this uniquely Chinese art dating back to the Man Dynasty (207 B.C. to 220 A.D.). Mr. Cheng learned the art of paper cutting from his grandmother, who was a tailor and an embroiderer for the last empress of China

Mr. Cheng’s speed and accuracy have amazed audiences at the American Museum of Natural History, the Brooklyn Museum and the University of Maryland, among other venues, and in numerous appearances on network television.

The last day activities were kicked off with crafts in the classroom at 9:30. The awards ceremony was held at 10:00 which included the Box Top winners, Presidential and Perfect Attendance awards.

The fun and games began at 10:30 with water balloon hot potato, a sand relay, beach volleyball, hippety-hop races, tug-o-war, potato sack races, tattoo station, limbo, bingo and popcorn for a snack. Plenty of cold water was available at all events on this hot day.

For lunch, students were served a hamburger, cheeseburger or chicken nuggets from Burger King courtesy of the PTA. They had chips and a drink followed by Rita's Italian Ice. The two flavors the students picked this year are root beer and chocolate fudge brownie.

Parents and faculty who signed up to receive lunch for $5 received Subway sandwiches, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, chips, pasta salad, cookies, peanut butter pie, pretzel salad, lemon squares, mini strudels, cream puffs, fresh fruit, pound cake and mini cheese cakes! Much of this was cooked and baked by members of the PTA over the weekend.

The Avona PTA wishes to thank everyonefor helping put on the events and with the clean-up afterwards. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

5^th Grade Swim Party

Family Movie Night this Friday the 13th!
Featuring The Incredibles!

On Friday May 13th, the Avona PTA will be showing the blockbuster hit "The Incredibles" from DVD projected on the 'BIG' Screen in our ALL Purpose room. We have the sound feeding into the overhead speakers

And of course hot popcorn and soda will be served, all free The fun begins at 6pm!

5th Grade Field Day

On Tuesday May 3rd, the Avona 5th grade students will compete with the Wilson and Williams Elementary School fifth grade classes at Field Day.

Family Fun Night at the Skateaway

The Avona PTA will host our next Family Fun Night at the Skateaway on Tuesday, April 12th from 6pm until 8pm. All parents, guardians, grandparents and children are welcome. NO DROP OFF's ALLOWED! All children must be accompanied by an adult.

If you need to rent skates, there is a minimal fee of $1.50 for regular roller skates and $2.50 for speed skates. The cost to skate on the rink is free. Please bring the whole family for an evening of fun and exercise! The address of the Skateaway is:
