All linked sites are linked to Government departments and reflect a good deal of free materials or displays. A brief review of Social Studies materials demonstrated that there are literally hundreds of sites with a mass of usable research and teacher materials. Other categories appear equally as rich. The arts area is also huge and filled with high interest materials. This is the Houghton Mifflin site. At this site there are three main theme areas: Education Place, Kids Place and Parents Place. These provide useful ideas, materials, directions, plans, and practice work to support textbooks. It will also provide updates to add to use of texts as they develop. (Math is a 2002 series). For example: Sample letters you can send home telling parents chapter by chapter what their children are studying in English and Spanish language. Kids Place presents brain teasers and practice tests – every chapter. Tremendous math tutorial/interactive site – broken by subject with many sub topics in each. Website to provide lesson plans to help educators teach the content of Black History, both African and African American. Video Placement Worldwide provides free videos on many subjects for teachers who register and complete requests. Literally hundreds of topical lesson plans posted by teachers from all over the map. Plans are indexed by grade levels (El, MS, HS) and by subjects (history, art, etc.). Includes teacher chat areas for advice and profession related literary columns. Vast resource of ideas and plans – thousands of them. http://amazing-space.stsci.edu Amazing Space Web-Based Activities – very nice site for students and teachers – science based. eNature.com -- Excellent biological science site with many field guides and excellent pictures. PlanetPals EarthZone: Teachers about ecology, natural resources, the planet Earth and its care. Very good environmental site. Student interactive. California Space & Science Center: Lesson plans and other resources for teachers, with an emphasis on space exploration. Good interactive site reflecting current materials and articles regarding space. Introduction to the Windows of the Universe: Designed for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, this site is a first rate trip through earth and space science by means of multimedia exhibits. www.weather.com/education/index.html Weather Channel – all weather information Mathematics Archives WWW Server – good site for materials to supplement math instruction. Gomath.com – students can e-mail math questions and be helped by tutors with extensive teaching experience. A very large site. With the aid of Java applets, students can visualize such concepts as the Pythagorean Theorem, tessellation, base 10, or comparing fractions. Harcourt School Publishers – help site for many subjects. Harcourt Multimedia Math Glossary: Use this site to help students in elementary and middle school visualize challenging math ideas. Illustrations and animations of concepts such as sums, ordinal numbers, and telling time are available for young students, while items such as alternate interior angles and congruency are depicted for older students. The descriptions are categorized by grade level.

This site features real-world math questions designed to motivate middle school students to learn higher-level math operations involving concepts such as angles, volumes, and number patterns.
The Exploratorium This site is an online arm of the world-famous Exploratorium museum in San Francisco. It is also targeted to helping people nurture their curiosity through innovative environments, programs and tools. The Exploratorium offers some of the most creative interactive activities on the Web in science, math and human perception, including opportunities to follow expeditions online, visit the Hubble telescope, look through live cameras, participate in Web casts, build projects and explore the science behind topics such as baseball and cycling. The site also includes a subject index and selects "Ten Cool Sites" each month. (This is a tremendous high interest site that will interest young and old alike.)
HowStuffWorks is an amazing site where people can get clear, straightforward information complete with colorful animated illustrations on how things work, from car engines and television monitors, to aspirin and breathalyzers. The expanding site already offers more than 2,500 articles with 2,000 graphics, and receives 6,000 questions a month asking for additional explanations. The content is organized by category – such as computers & Internet, body & health – but also offers a powerful search engine and daily features including "Gadget of the Day," "Question of the Day" and a Top 40 list of articles. (Tremendous resource on looking at "How Things Work" – generally free – but advertisements exist to buy stuff.)

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts to support art at the center of the curriculum through the use of technology. The site offers a wealth of K-12 Web-centered curriculum units, lessons, activities and resources grouped by grade level for integrating the arts into every content area. TeachSpace is a comprehensive source for space science content targeted to upper-elementary and middle school students and teachers. This includes a library of inquiry lessons, themed monthly modules, online photos and movies, and links to related multimedia sites including SpaceKids, with news, virtual tours, games, activities, question-asking services and homework help. (Particularly good materials focused for grades 3 – 9.)
Offered by the National Council on Economic Education, this site provides classroom-tested, standards-based educational materials for K-12 teachers and students that cover the essential principles of economics. These include: lesson plans, which can be searched by title, concept, grade level or standard; news and information on current events; case studies and data on key economic indicators; and links to related economics education sites. (Outstanding link for Social Studies, Family and Consumer Science and relations to math and other subjects.)
